RE: General Announcements - Celwin - 31-05-2020

Our next General Meeting is set for Sunday the 14th of June, starting at 9:30am. At this meeting we will be discussing fees and projected expenditure for the next financial year. The MAAA and MAAQ have reduced their fees to a total of $20 less than last year ($10 each) so that's good news.

So... Do we reduce our fees by the same amount or keep them the same to help complete the clubhouse and a few other things, such as debts that we already have. The plumber (Toolie) has been back recently to do the roughing out in the toilet/shower area, so his bill will be following shortly we presume. We don't expect that Bunnings will have their BBQ's starting again anytime soon, so fundraising is out for most of the remaining year. That's not good news.

This GM can be a face-to-face meeting, as by then restrictions will have eased to allow a gathering of up to 20 people (distancing and other requirements are still required). Merry notified me today that this easing of restrictions have been brought forward to Friday the 5th of June from the expected 12th of June. We don't expect to break the maximum at the meeting, but I will be asking for names who plan to attend closer to the GM date. For those who cannot attend or do not wish to attend, I will be running a Zoom online meeting, with plans to use a portable video camera to view those present (otherwise those online will spend all their time looking up my nostrils because of my laptop's built-in camera). So that's good news.

This year will not go down as our best, due to lengthy and forced holidays from flying due to extreme fire restrictions and COVID-19. From talking to members though, I've found that many have been very busy acquiring new models (some very big and heavy!) and a flurry of activity building new ones and resurrecting old ones. So that's really good news.

It's going to be great seeing everyone once again. I got to put in a few flights last Wednesday, which was my first flying since quite a while before the virus stopped everything. I was a bit shaky, but hopefully no-one noticed or put it down to turbulence. It was great having a fly of Barry's latest trainer, which he won/bought through the recent tender process on our website. It was an awesome flyer and a great match to the 40 sized engine. Looking forward to seeing it in the air again soon Barry.

Fly safely everyone.
Marcel.

This Sunday is a club day, starting from 8.00am. Please come along with your planes or projects. There will be no canteen yet, just flying and fellowship, any one wishing to come along please do so.

RE: General Announcements - KENNYGLIDE - 07-06-2020

Hi everyone....nosed in today and put a bend in the crankshaft at the engine end on the thread .... . Looking for someone with a lathe and a dial gauge to attempt to straighten it.....can anyone suggest an engineering shop that may be able to help me out ...Cheers Ken .

RE: General Announcements - Celwin - 08-06-2020

Brian might be able to help you.

RE: General Announcements - KENNYGLIDE - 08-06-2020

All fixed thanks Marcel...dial gauge and soft hammer ....it was the Sonic , had it for 3 or 4 years..flying over in the north east of the field ...lost orientation due to poor light ....the 55 will go in a DAGGER now when I build it.

RE: General Announcements - Celwin - 12-06-2020

Just sent everyone an email and SMS about Sunday's meeting. Please see your emails for the agenda, reports and other documentation for the meeting.

Hope the weather holds out!

RE: General Announcements - Celwin - 21-06-2020

Sorry that I missed everyone today. Couldn't get out any earlier.

Put 4 tanks through my Wot 4, one after the other. That would have to be the most flying I've done since before fire restrictions started the 6 month + slow-down!

RE: General Announcements - KENNYGLIDE - 21-06-2020

If I had known I would have waited and had a fly with you...as you probably know I prefer after lunch due to the good backlight .Nice to hear you had a chance to do some serious flying... building a replica of my Dagger....but with a 55 this time.... very easy build second time around...tail feathers were intact...ailerons intact ... just have to find a way to remove the contact cement...any ideas?

RE: General Announcements - Celwin - 24-06-2020

Hey everyone, there's a Saito 82 on rc trader for only $150 right now. They are an awesome engine that is lighter than a 55AX and almost as much power (presuming that you prop your 55AX to allow it to rev to 16 thousand revs, which you won't). I'd buy it if I didn't already have one in a model and one in a display cabinet (that my financial controller isn't aware of).
That's also the only reason I'm sharing this information, as I'm very greedy when it comes to engines... REAL ENGINES!!

RE: General Announcements - gbar7217 - 24-06-2020

Thanks for the heads up on the Saito, just had a look and had sold on it, bugger!!
