Agreed Marcel, the scanner is ugly BUT beauty is in the eye of the beholder and the flyer. Your friend has witnessed the ugly scanner flying and expressed the desire to own one, so being a good friend, you bought one. Maybe your friend should assemble(with your help) the said scanner and install a 46Ax motor and fly it, if disappointed in its performance then sell it to blind pylon racer, problem solved!!. Now the tricky one, a WOT 4 with a Saito 72 four stroke, now that is pure ugly but a very enjoyable plane to fly, your friend will enjoy many hours assembling said aircraft and many hours of flying. No matter what you say or do, you will be branded selfish and self centred for spending money on yourself evan tho they are your friends planes. Myself I have rooms full of planes but my good friend says it keeps me happy and entertained. Friends often say things hurtful without realizing that being a ....... to a well meaning friend really hurts their feelings, you can't really sue them for that. Lawyers cost money and if you have to sell all of your planes to pursue legal action it is a no win situation unless you can hire a no win no fee lawyer. If your friend wont feed you anymore I know of this little food van that frequents Warwick that feeds the homeless, might be worth a try!!!
PS. This is really a Hypothetical answer to a Hypothetical question, right???

Hypothetical.... sort of. The bit about saying that it is ugly is certainly true. The bit about not allowing me to touch any of it is also true. The rest is a slight embellishment of the truth.

Just a thought, if your friend doesn't want said scanner, I would be more than willing to refund money. A backup scanner is worth 2 in the bush.

I was having a look through Youtube to see some engines running (I need my fix somehow...) and just saw that Brian Winch has passed away.

He was famous for writing about REAL ENGINES in all the Australian magazines as well as a few overseas. He was a real guru when it came to model aircraft engines and was the only approved warranty repairer for Saito engines amongst others. He wasn't always right, but certainly was 98% of the time. Steve Todd didn't speak highly of him, mainly due to his know-it-all attitude. I spoke to him quite a few times in my early years of playing with REAL ENGINES and more recently, when talking about converting glow engines to petrol (before every Chinese man and his edible dog started making them). One article I remember reading was how he was viewed as a grumpy old guy at his model field and he usually kept to himself. He carried his gear out to the pits and proceeded to flick start his engine. Some young smart-buttocks commented to him that he'll never be able to start his engine because he forgot to plug his glow-starter onto the glow plug. He made fun of him as he walked back to his mates. Before he even got to his mates, the engine sprang into life (it was a diesel - no glow plug in them) and the young smart-buttocks was gob-smacked. When this fellow commented to his mates in awe that Brian was able to flick-start an engine without a glow-starter attached, the other guys apparently said something like "yeah, Brian is a funny old fellow that does weird things". Brian got quite a chuckle out of that one.

His articles were the first thing I read whenever I bought a magazine. I kept most of my magazines because of his articles so that I had references to engine fixes.

Many people will miss you Brian 'Oily Hands' Winch. You had international respect from everywhere, especially the Japanese manufacturers in the early post-war modelling boom.

Big oily boots to fill there...

What a sad loss to the modelling world, he was true engine man, I have also watched countless youtube videos of him explaining the workings of model engines.
He contributed to a lot of magazines over the years and his articles will be surely missed.

Flat Out RC is on the newsagents shelves at the moment.

Has everyone been sent an email from the MAAA for the latest Wingspan digital magazine? Good read...
