Due to the extreme weather conditions currently and what is expected over the coming days, the Management Committee have decided to close the field for flying until further notice. We are not sure how long this will be, so we will keep you posted.

The MAAA have posted on their Facebook page to consider the environmental conditions and fire risk before making the decision to fly any model aircraft, which has triggered this action. TARMAC in Toowoomba have also sent out notices informing of their closure as have clubs closer to Brisbane to my knowledge.

We are sorry for this inconvenience, but we need to act in order prevent any possible insurance claim or negative publicity should something go wrong.

THANK YOU MERRY! for all of your work and organisation to get the Christmas party happening. It was a great event with a very good turn out of members and their spouses. Thank you to everyone who brought a plate or two to share.
It was lovely to catch up with many, as whenever I seem to get to the field, it's either a meeting or time is short to sit and chat. Sunday was really nice.

Looking forward to the new year now. And maybe a cool present for Christmas? How about you?

Discussion is occurring regarding our current flying ban, as we have our first calendared fly-day for the year, this Sunday. I understand that TARMAC are flying again, with caution.
I haven't talked about this with George as yet, but we may allow flying, with caution, with wording such as;
"During days of 'High' fire danger, any flying must have at least three persons at the field. At least one must accompany the pilot to the strip and remain there during the flight. Should a model crash or land away from the strip and require retrieval, the fire extinguisher must accompany the pair. If a fire occurs, the third may be required to call 000 for assistance."

The fire extinguisher will be strapped to a fridge trolley so that it can be located at the pilot's box on fly days and easily taken to a crash site, fire or not...

We are currently classed as "Very High", so flying may only occur on calendared days, such as our current fly days and perhaps Wednesday afternoons, so long as several able-bodied persons are there.

I will let you know tomorrow of the outcome of the committee's discussions, so that we can be prepared for Sunday. Let me know if you have any objections to the above proposal, so that it can be taken into consideration.

On Wednesday, some members tried flying early in the morning in an effort to avoid the heat of the afternoon. I hear that it went ok and that they were there for quite some time (mosquitos didn't chase them away).

What do people think about changing Wednesday flying to an AM thing during the summer months?
